| The Organizing Committee presented awards to authors whose works received consolation prizes. |
According to the Organizing Committee, as of November 30, 2015, the contest had received 5,743 works from 3,124 authors. Among them, about 90% of the entries complied with the regulations and were admitted to the preliminary round. After three rounds of selection, 128 works with qualified ideas advanced to the final round.
After more than a month of work, the final jury convened and selected the 26 most outstanding works to be awarded, including 1 First Prize worth 10 million VND; 2 Second Prizes, each worth 5 million VND; 3 Third Prizes, each worth 3 million VND; and 20 Consolation Prizes, each worth 1 million VND.
The contest attracted participants from all over the country and across many age groups, despite the fact that it was not widely promoted in mass media.
The content of the entries was highly appreciated, featuring very real and relatable stories—sometimes personal confessions or reflections of the authors’ own lives—yet rich in humanity, filled with extraordinary resilience, and carrying valuable lessons that promise to make a positive impact on television audiences once adapted into films.
This year, the Organizing Committee also tightened the copyright registration process to ensure the rights of the authors. All works included in the award structure, as well as those meeting quality standards, were guided by the editorial board in preparing copyright applications and supported in registering with the Copyright Office of Vietnam.
After the contest, the winning works will be adapted into short films to be broadcast in the program Gifts of Life. At the same time, these films may also be selected to participate in domestic and international film festivals.
If conditions permit, a book titled Gifts of Life, compiling all the award-winning works and other high-quality entries, will be published.
The Gifts of Life short story contest is expected to be held annually, becoming a prestigious and valuable award in the field of creative arts in Vietnam.
